Howdy, y’all… I’m Forest Raynes, and I’m sure glad you stopped by.
I was raised here in South Jersey, where life moved a little slower, neighbors knew each other by name, and a handshake still meant something. I grew up exploring the Jersey Pines, fishing the back bays, wandering the woods, and learning that the best stories don’t come from Hollywood—they come from everyday folks. Those experiences shaped who I am, and they’re the heartbeat behind every song I write.
Country music has always been more than something I listen to. It’s how I tell stories. Every song I write is inspired by real places, real memories, and the kind of people you never forget. Some songs will make you laugh. Some might hit you right in the heart. Others will remind you of home, old friends, and the roads that somehow always lead us back.
Now, if you’ve listened to my music or tuned in to Forest Raynes Radio, you’ve probably already met a few members of my slightly “colorful” family…
There’s Cousin Cledus, who’s never met a fish story he couldn’t improve on. According to him, every bass weighed at least ten pounds, every buck was a trophy, and every campfire story somehow ends with him saving the day.
Then there’s Uncle Roy, who has an opinion on just about everything. He’ll tell you exactly how to fix your truck, grill the perfect steak, catch more fish, and solve the world’s problems—all before you’ve finished your first cup of coffee. Whether he’s right or not… well, that’s another story.
And you definitely don’t want to miss Old Aunt Mabel. She somehow knows everybody’s business before they do, never shows up empty-handed, and always has a pie cooling on the windowsill. She’ll tease you mercilessly, then send you home with enough food to feed a family reunion.
You’ll also run into Grandpa Earl, who swears country music hasn’t sounded the same since the days of vinyl records and AM radio. He’s full of stories that somehow get a little better every time he tells them.
My Cousin Becky is convinced every family gathering needs homemade sweet tea, banana pudding, and somebody playing guitar on the back porch. Truth be told… she’s probably right.
Then there’s Little Bobby Ray, who’s always getting into something he probably shouldn’t. If something mysterious happens around The Clam Shack, chances are Bobby Ray had a hand in it—or at least knows who did.
Whether these characters are inspired by people I’ve known, stories I’ve heard, or just a little country imagination… I’ll let you decide. Around here, they’re all part of the fun, and they’ll keep showing up in my songs, radio shows, and stories from time to time.
When I’m not out on the Great Bay in Tuckerton claming (I LOVE eating them and it pays the Bills!), you’ll usually find me at The Clam Shack Studio, tucked away in the South Jersey Pines of Tuckerton, New Jersey. It’s where I write new music, produce Forest Raynes Radio, and spend countless hours chasing melodies, telling stories, and trying to make folks smile.
My goal has always been simple: write honest country music with a little humor, a lot of heart, and stories that feel like they could’ve happened to any of us. Whether it’s a song about small-town life, the Jersey Pines, Christmas, amateur radio (my other hobby), or one of my unforgettable relatives, I hope it leaves you smiling.
Thanks for stopping by and becoming part of the Forest Raynes family. Pull up a chair, pour yourself something cold, and make yourself at home.
We’ll save you a seat on the porch.
— Forest Raynes
